Finish It #34 – Surprise!

She saw the bundle in the corner, covered by dirty blankets. It moved. It was freezing cold. No wonder it was trying to find cover or at least a little bit of it under the shredded and filthy fabric. It must be desperate, she thought. She was just about to walk on when she heard the sound coming from under the blankets. And it was not what she had expected to hear. She froze and slowly turned around…

…as the cover began to move in a zigzag manner, then fell, revealing the head and a portion of the body of

a big,

beige-and-brown

diamondback rattler.

And the sound that emanated from it was unmistakable.

Finish It #33 – The Sighting (We’re Not Alone)

Could it be? They looked again, wondering if they could trust their eyes, blinking. Then, in a split of a second it was gone.

Here’s my contribution to https://authorsbmazing.wordpress.com/2015/09/30/finish-it-33/

Her brother stood there, his complexion ashen. He appeared dead, only he wasn’t.

The late-autumn wind blew ferociously through their summer clothes, chilling her to the bone, only it wasn’t all due to the weather. She forced her voice past her vocal cords, which had grown as dry as the Sahara desert. “You saw it too, didn’t you?”

He nodded.

“I did, too.” Her lower lip began to tremble and her body shook.

“I-I-I…” He weaved a little and grabbed her arm for support. Her burly brother appeared as weak as a newborn baby. “Yeah.”

“It wasn’t human, was it?” she whispered. It seemed to dissolve into the craggy side of the cave about fifty yards ahead of them.

His big hand slid down her arm and regaining his strength, he nearly yanked her off of her feet, making her run behind him in the opposite direction. “Maybe not but it’s alive and it’s here. Among us.”

Disclaimer first: THIS IS A WORK OF FICTION!! I DON’T EVEN KNOW A MAN NAMED HARRY!!!

Sunset

For most people, sunsets are full of romance or wonder. I don’t particularly care for them because they fill me with a variety of emotions, the main ones being sadness and anger.

Sadness, because I have no one special to share them with.

Anger, because I have no one to share them with.

My last memorable sunset was spent with Harry. Not because it was romantic, although I though it would be.

Memorable because he dumped me there.

So I decided to do the same to hin.

I hit him in the eye and knocked him over the side.

He was crying like a baby when I left.

I stood on an outcropping of small boulders and watched as a rescue team rescued him.

The police came to my house and I told them I did it.

Yeah, I spent a little time in jail but got out on my own recognizance.

That’s why I don’t like sunsets.
